I love porridge and autumn is the perfect season to get back into beautiful warm bowls to start the day. As I have said before porridge doesn’t have to be a boring breakfast made with oats, water and a little salt as is the traditional Scottish method, in fact I will not eat it if it is made like that. Instead it can be a delicious and healthy start to the day, helping to get in some fruit and seeds into your breakfast.
In the recipe below I share an autumn favourite with pears but apples, bananas and figs are also great.
Autumn Porridge Bowls
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup oats
- 1 cup milk (cow or plant milk)
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
- 2 cardamom pods
- 1 pear, chopped into inch sized pieces
- handful fresh berries
- 1 tsp linseeds
- 1 tsp pumpkin seeds
- honey, optional
Method
- Place the oats, milk, vanilla, pear and cardamom into a pan and cook over a gentle heat for 5-10 minutes.
- Pour into a bowl and top with berries, seeds and drizzle with honey.
Enjoy! H x
Mmmm, delicious. Now we just need some Autumn weather in LA.
I hope it comes soon, the leaves here are looking amazing already! Although it is a little early so I think it is going to be a hard winter here! H x
This looks amazing! I will have to make it for breakfast 🙂
Thank you! I hope you enjoy it! H x
I love porridge every morning 🙂 I make it with prunes, dried apple, almond milk and cinnamon. I like the idea of adding vanilla and cardamom. Yummm.
That sounds wonderful, I haven’t had a prune for ages! H x
They are totally under rated 🙂
YUM! This bowl looks so delicious! Porridge is totally perfect for fall, all warm and thick. Great for those early mornings.
Thank you! I agree it is really comforting on cold autumn mornings! H x
