While I was pregnant I craved Nutella so much! I had never been that fussed about it before but pregnancy turned me into a Nutella fiend! The problem I had with that was I try to avoid palm oil as far as possible so wanting to eat Nutella meant having to go against that. I have been wanting to make my own for ages but trying to find the time has been difficult, until I got a high speed blender! From ingredients to Nutella in less than 15 minutes, perfect! You can make this in a regular food processor but it will take longer to blend it until smooth.
This only has four ingredients hazelnuts, dark chocolate, vanilla bean paste and salt. I do want to experiment with a raw cacao powder version but for now this speedy one is perfect. Roasting the hazelnuts first really brings out their flavour. I used a vegan dark chocolate with 74% cocoa solids for this, the higher the cocoa solid percentage the better! I like adding a pinch of salt to enhance the chocolate flavour but this can be omitted if you don’t want to add it.
Homemade Vegan Nutella
Ingredients
- 210g hazelnuts
- 50g dark chocolate
- 1/2 tsp vanilla bean paste
- Pinch of salt
Method
- Roast the hazelnuts in the oven for 12 minutes at 160C. Then leave to cool.
- Place the hazelnuts in a high speed blender either on the designated grinding setting or for 2 minutes. You blend for as long as you like until it is smooth! To help this along make sure you scrape down the sides so that everything gets incorporated.
- Add the melted chocolate, vanilla and salt and blend for a further minute.
Enjoy! H xx
This looks yummy. I try to avoid palm oil too and Nutella is one thing I really miss so this is great, thanks for sharing!
