We braved our first weekend away whilst weaning Rowan. I was a bit nervous as it is a different environment and wondered if it would put Rowan off especially as we had only been trying him with food for a couple of weeks.
The first morning away Rowan definitely wasn’t happy and didn’t want to eat anything – not even nectarines which are usually a huge hit. Not wanting him to go off food I reluctantly went and bought a pouch of Ella’s Kitchen Mango Baby Brekkie just so he could taste something. I gave him a couple of spoonfuls which he seemed to enjoy and then tried him back on the nectarines and he happily eat a few pieces. After that he continued to eat quite happily. I like to make everything for Rowan from scratch but sometimes you do just need to buy something easy. The Ella’s Kitchen range is great as they are organic and contain no nasties.
I don’t think he is eating as much as before we went away but I am not concerned, he is also teething at the moment so is just feeling a bit rubbish in general. Cool sticks of cucumber seem to help though so I think we will be eating a lot of the over the next couple of weeks before he cuts his first teeth.
Rowan is now interested in holding the food himself and attempting (not very successfully) it put it into his mouth himself. I’ll let Rowan move the food to his face and then help direct him to his mouth as he gets very cross and frustrated when he can’t eat something. He is also joining in family meals, where possible, curry was a huge hit! He had an entire bowl full and then some of mine too! My first recipe which has adaptations of babies and children can be found here.
Today I thought I would share some finger foods that we have found Rowan really likes;
Roasted or Steamed
- Butternut squash
- Sweet potato (his absolute favourite at the moment!)
We are looking forward to seeing what the next week brings with weaning Rowan!
