Roast Garlic and Butter Bean Dip

February 20, 2018

My goodness we have been really ill! We are still not at the end of it but I think, hopefully, the end is in sight! Just a really nasty cold/flu virus, sore throat, headaches, swollen glands, snot monsters! We are not surprised though, Antony has been working insanely hard during January and February so is … More Roast Garlic and Butter Bean Dip

Savoury Porridge Bowl

January 23, 2018

Everybody knows I love porridge and would very happily have it every morning for breakfast. This morning I fancied something savoury rather than sweet so I experimented making a savoury porridge bowl, it turned out really well! There is no milk in this so it is vegan. I do realise that people will either “love … More Savoury Porridge Bowl

Mushrooms and Humous on Toast

January 9, 2018

This is going to be a quick post!! I’m sitting here writing this post two minutes after having demolished this for my lunch! You learn to eat quickly when you have a small baby as you don’t know when you will have time to eat next. I videoed how I manage to take photos of … More Mushrooms and Humous on Toast

Roasted Beetroot Hummus

July 15, 2015

I love hummus. I got into making homemade hummus when I lived in Norway as you can not buy it ready made as easily as in the UK. I now make homemade hummus lots. This is one of my new favourite hummus recipes. I had a beetroot in the fridge desperately needing to be eaten. I … More Roasted Beetroot Hummus

Butter Bean, Courgette and Feta Salad

June 5, 2015

Here is yet another salad bowl. Summer is just about deciding to finally appear in the Highlands. We’ve had brief glimpses of sunny weather with clouds but not warm enough to just wear a top and no jumper yet. I’m hoping that by the time it is my birthday I will be eating dinner outside … More Butter Bean, Courgette and Feta Salad

Mediterranean Flat Bread

May 10, 2015

I love bread. I do like eating gluten free at times but I could never go completely gluten free as I love bread (and cakes!) so much. I make and experiment with a lot of gluten free recipes for my sister which are great as she is intolerant to gluten and it also makes her … More Mediterranean Flat Bread

Roasted Vegetable and Quinoa Salad

April 23, 2015

I love big bowls of salad. This recipe had been planned to have included barbecued vegetables however our barbecue was a failure as the barbecue wasn’t started early enough (not wanting to blame the men of the household *cough cough*) and it was incredibly windy. Instead we oven roasted the vegetables which still worked brilliantly … More Roasted Vegetable and Quinoa Salad

M I N C E P I E S | I think we have already eaten our weight in mince pies! Rowan absolutely loves them and everyday comes up to me and asks for a mince pie which is totally adorable! I’ve made a lot of homemade mince pies this year using the vegan mincemeat I made last year which tastes amazing but we have also eaten our fair share of shop bought ones too! Definitely the best ones we have had so far are from @threeharescafe in Sedbergh and we are heading there soon to get some more! . . . . . . . . . #mincepies #mincepieseason #veganmincepies #winterstories #momentsthatmattertome #winterfood #hygge #fika #advent #christmas #cosy #snug #winterwarmers #christmasfood #veganchristmas #delicious #baking #theplacetobe #plantbased #foodstylist #motherhood #smallmomentsofmagic #makingwinter #baking #veganbaking #vegan #ceramics #dustwithsugar #stars #scottishblogger
C H O C O L A T E P O R R I D G E | after the awful weather we had yesterday and last night a warming bowl of chocolate porridge for a treat is just what me and Rowan needed this morning. Antony has a blood test this morning so isn’t allowed to eat anything and he doesn’t like chocolate porridge (I know weird!) so it was the perfect day to have it. I put the last scraping of tahini onto mine, it is a great way to use the last of the solid tahini in the bottom of the jar as it melts in the hot porridge! I always use @belazu_co tahini as it is the best! I then topped it with brambles, hazelnuts and cacao nibs. I use cacao powder for the chocolate so it doesn’t have any sugar in it. I think we will be having this a lot in just over a weeks time as Antony is going to be away for a week so we will need the treat leading up until Christmas! . . . . . . . . #porridge #oats #chocolateporridge #cacao #cacaoporridge #porridgeporn #winterstories #makingwinter #advent #vegan #plantbased #delicious #cacaonibs #veganbreakfast #winterbreakfast #foodblog #scottishblogger #eastlothianfoodanddrink #tahini #brambles #hazelnut #foodstylist #cosy #hygge #slowliving #slowlivingforlife #vegetarianfamily #scandinavianchristmas #foodforlife
S L O W | we are down in Sedbergh again. My parents are this week too which is wonderful. I’m getting to take things slow and be looked after which is much needed. This is our fourth trip down here since we had Clemmie and she is only six weeks old so I’m getting quite tired of travelling back and forth and looking forward to being home more in the new year. Today we just spent the afternoon relaxing, reading, Rowan watched Postman Pat and we were all snuggled up kept warm. It feels like a hibernating kind of day. Living far away from family can be very difficult when you have a baby, sometimes you just need someone to snuggle your baby so you can sleep, wash, eat or just have five minutes of enjoying having arms. It’s not that I don’t want to hold her all the time but sometimes you need that five minutes. I’ve not had that for such a long time and I’m really appreciating it this week. . . . . . . . #mumlife #slowliving #slowlivingforlife #winter #winterstories #momentsthatmattertome #motherhood #honestlymothering #motheringthemother #ontheroadagain #kitcheninterior #kitchendecor #kitcheninspo #kitchendetails #platerack #cottagekitchen #myslowandsimple #slowandsimpledays #reclaimingvulnerability #makingwinter #agentlehugforthesoul #foodphotographer #vegan #familymoments #cumbria #scottishblogger #sedbergh #holisticparenting #ceramics #hygge
D E C E M B E R | I am incredibly excited about Christmas this year, I am every year to be fair! But this year I feel particularly excited. I haven’t bought a single Christmas present yet but fingers crossed that may change today! We started the month with orange pancakes, I just add orange zest to the batter! We love pancakes on Sunday mornings anyway but it felt like a wonderful Christmassy treat today! I am making an advent list of things to do everyday leading up to Christmas rather than a calendar this year and Christmas pancakes seems like a very fitting start to advent 🎄 . . . . . . . . . #christmas #advent #christmasiscoming #momentsthatmattertome #maketheseasonsparkle #makersofinstagram #foodblogger #christmasfood #pancakes #breakfast #vegetarian #plantbased #oatmilk #dropscones #scottishblogger #vegan #eastlothian #winterstories #makingwinter #thathyggefeeling #aquietwinter #aseasonalyear #mymagicalmorning #orange #festive #festiveseason #hygge #foodstyling #makeeverydaymagical #everydayfood
C O S Y M O M E N T S | with norovirus completely wiping us out last week we are trying to take things slow and have a special cosy moment everyday. Today’s was enjoying our first mince pie of the season and hot chocolate. Being away from home half the week, every week is getting a bit laborious but we only have two more to do before Christmas. Thankfully my parents are going to be away with us next week too. I’m missing home and our routine though, mornings spent baking bread and cake, walks down the lane, maybe something crafty if Rowan feels like it. I’m making a list of all the Christmassy things I would like to do with Rowan throughout advent, I’m sure we won’t get everything done but it will be very magical trying to get everything ticked off the list ✨🎄 Also for full disclosure life isn’t as picture perfect as it looks, Rowan tried to stand on Clemmie on purpose while I was changing her nappy just before this! . . . . . . . . . . . #mincepie #mincepies #hygge #cosy #momentsthatmattertome #fika #fairylights #toddlerlife #hotchocolate #christmasiscoming #advent #gentleparenting #foodstylist #foodstyling #foodblog #foodblogger #vegan #plantbased #oatmilk #vegetarianfamily #wholefoods #wholefoodplantbased #slowliving #wanderlust #magicmoments #myslowandsimple #makingwinter #agentlehugforthesoul #christmaspreparations #joy
T W O Y E A R S | today is Rowan’s second birthday! The last two years have brought so much happiness, love and laughter (plus tears, lack of sleep, frustration etc!). Watching him grow into the person he is is incredible! We are away in Sedbergh this week so are celebrating his birthday properly at the weekend with his friends. I took him out for hot chocolate and cake though at @threeharescafe as a treat. He has found the transition to big brother difficult as you can imagine but it feels like over the last four/five days we have got him back to his happy carefree toddler life! Happy birthday Rowan, you make us happier than you could possibly know! . . . . . . . . #twoyearsold #happybirthday #cake #brownie #hotchocolate #sedbergh #theplacetobe #momentsthatmattertome #cumbrialife #itsprimupnorth #cumbria #toddlerlife #mumlife #slowliving #scandiliving #hygge #hyggelife #myslowandsimple #makingwinter #agentlehugforthesoul #cafe #autumnvibes #winterdays #cosy #littlemomentsofhappiness #happiness #love #familylife #gentleparenting #loveparenting
S H A K S H U K A | I haven’t made shakshuka for such a long time. Today we are heading back down to Cumbria again for a few days so needed to clear out what was in the fridge and cupboards. Thankfully all we had was peppers, eggs and onions so it was the perfect excuse for making shakshuka for lunch. It is a really simple yet hearty meal, perfect on such a cold day! To make it really delicious I always add @belazu_co rose harrisa to my shakshuka, it brings the perfect heat to the dish and wonderful flavour. I served it with white sourdough bread. Ingredients • 1 large onion • 1 tsp cumin seeds • 1 large clove of garlic • 2 peppers • 2 tins chopped tomatoes • pinch saffron • 1 tsp smoked paprika • 2 tsp rose harrisa • 4 eggs • salt and pepper Method Thinly slice the onion, put it in a large oven proof dish with some olive oil, the cumin seeds and chopped garlic, slowly cook on the hob for 10 minutes or until the onions are soft. Add the thinly sliced peppers and cook for a further 10 minutes. Add the chopped tomatoes, saffron, smoked paprika, rose harrisa and simmer until the peppers are soft. Season this to taste then make four small wells in the mixture and crack an egg into each one. Bake in the oven at 180C for 10 minutes. Top with fresh coriander and sumac. Enjoy! . . . . . . . . #shakshuka #roseharrisa #harissa #eggs #vegetarian #vegetarianrecipes #vegetarianlunch #wholefoodsplantbased #fridgecleanout #brunch #vegetarianbrunch #foodstyling #foodstylist #autumnfood #warming #slowfood #slowliving #coriander #smokedpaprika #eastlothianfoodanddrink #eastlothianlife #foodblog #scottishbloggers #sourdough #comfortfood #plantbased #vegetarianfamily #delicious #f52grams #foodphotography
B I S C U I T S | we are slowly getting some rhythm into our lives and managing to cook wonderfully healthy and hearty autumnal meals such as vegan sausage casserole, soups, risotto etc. I have also managed to make time to do some baking with Rowan. We made these cinnamon biscuits together on Sunday, they taste like Christmas and made 40 biscuits which is a bonus! Although making them did make me wonder if me and Rowan are actually related to me as he kept eating the raw cookie dough, which I know lots of people do, but I hate. I can not understand how people can eat raw flour and find it enjoyable! We have brought what is left from the batch with us to Sedbergh as we have managed to get away for a mini holiday with 2 week old Clemmie and Rowan who will be 2 in a couple of weeks. It is great to have this time together as a new family away from everything. Antony has just started his paternity leave so it is fantastic to have him around fully for two weeks. He works from home so he has been around for the last couple of weeks but he has had to be working upstairs in the office a lot. It feels like the real beginning of our life as a family of four! . . . . . . . . . . . . #baking #autumn #momentsthatmattertome #bakersofinstagram #biscuits #sugarcookies #biscuitcutters #squirrel #hedgehog #autumnbaking #bakingwithtoddlers #biscuittin #sedbergh #cumbria #theplacetobe #seasonalbakes #naturallight #foodblog #foodblogger #scottishblogger #edinburghblogger #plantbased #organic #organicbaking #slowliving #slowfood #cinnamon #cinnamonbiscuits #foodstylist #vegetarian
G O L D E N M I L K | juggling a nearly two year old and newborn is tough, wonderful, challenging, fun, tiring and emotional. Trying to get Rowan to nap is difficult at the best of times but add in looking after a newborn and trying to get him to go down for a nap is impossible. Late afternoons are then always difficult as he is really overtired. Today he is napping after we went for a short drive so I’m now having snuggles with Clemmie. I know we are only 12 days into being a family of four so it will take time to find our rhythm but there are days that are really hard. Today I took Rowan and Clemmie out for the first walk just the three of us which was wonderful. Rowan loves being outside and ran around playing with sticks and crunching through piles of leaves. We came back and made golden milk which is perfect for an autumnal day. • 1 cup oat milk • 1/2 tsp turmeric • 1:4 tsp cinnamon • 1cm fresh ginger • 1 tsp maple syrup • pinch of black pepper Method - blitz then heat! Rowan had some but did look very questioning about it, I think it will grow on him! . . . . . . . . #goldenmilk #vegan #turmericlatte #turmeric #plantbased #plantbasedwholefoods #autumn #autumnfood #autumndrinks #hygge #ceramics #comfort #foodblog #foodblogger #mumlife #twoundertwo #foodstyling #foodstylist #scottishblogger #eastlothian #scotland #momentsthatmattertome #mycommontable #wholefoodsplantbased #oatmilk #cinnamon #warming #familylife #slowliving #halloween
